Love your contacts
I’m very adventurous when trying out new things to improve my appearance, emotional state, and spiritual well-being. But in this entry, let’s stick to beauty shall we?
I love to wear cosmetic contact lenses. My uncle, who is an optometrist, would always give me a pair twice a year: for my birthday and on Christmas. But he failed to mention the maintenance and what-nots (tsk tsk!). So yeah, I sometimes get tired, red, irritated eyes which I thought was just normal – Red eyes that Visine cannot fix. That’s why I just wear contacts on special occasions. Until I learned the proper way to store, and rinse my contacts. So here are some tips.
Things you should know when you are wearing contacts
1. Rinsing the case – I bet you don’t know that you shouldn’t clean the interior with soap and water do you? I learned the hard way that the exterior can be cleaned with soap and water, but the inside should be cleansed using the All-In-One-Solution (I use FreshLook, Retail Price P210, 360ml). I shake it like crazy twice before I am satisfied. You can use any brand of Cleaning Solution that you want.
2. Disinfecting the contacts – First and foremost, make sure that your hands are uber clean and dry (no water) before you take out the contacts from your eyes. Apply a few drops of the All-In-One-Solution rubbing the contacts gently to take out the protein that may cause discomfort in your eyes. I do this twice (Can you tell by now how Obsessive Compulsive I am?)
3. Expiration – I know every cent counts now days, but if you must know, once you open the solution, it’s good for 1 month only (though it says in the box that it’s good for 3 months). That’s why you use it for cleansing, rinsing, disinfecting, lubricating, so on and so forth.
4. If your contacts’ expiration is only for 6 months? Get a new one in 5 months just to be sure you don’t get eye irritation. You know, although Maxitrol works for those moments of scary looking red eyes, it can’t be used for a long period of time so just be safe than sorry. I’ll discuss Maxitrol another time.
When you have done all these and your contacts still feel like they have dust when you put them on your eyes? I say throw them away. Sometimes it can’t be helped that one or both gets damaged when you rub them. I might have damaged one lens when I still had long nails a couple of weeks back. I’m glad I still have a new pair (took one lens for replacement) so now I’m feeling great. No more discomfort! I can wear my contact lenses all day long!

I’m thinking of buying the Flexwear emotions kind, but I like the color you’re wearing so I might buy Flexwear Enhance in the Toast/Brown shade if it will give me the dolly look effect…
